Cacti and Succulents: what is going on here?

Probably because they were/are so cheap I seem to have lots of Mammillaria pringlei which have grown pretty big compared to what they were when I purchased them. I do not know how big they do grow. But none of them have had this occur on the top. Could they be called two growth centers? Any information is appreciated. Thanks. Xuling
