I went to my FIRST C&S show Sunday. I cannot believe I have never been to one before. I picked up some goodies. Two were unmarked so if you know them let me know. They were $2 aloes and I couldn't pass them up. It's the two long ones. I was so HAPPY to get the plicatilis! Plus the red aloe which is blooming (marked "aloe red"?), the small cute Victoria reginae was exciting. Ok, it was all fun! One vendor gave me an aeonium since I helped sell a few to a guy questioning our winter temps on them. I whipped out pics of the winter growth and he was sold. I love freebies! So fun.
I love Dyckias. The first one I questioned myself about, but now it is the photo on the website of the nursery where I purchased it. And then I purchased two more different ones and they are exquisite. Damn, I am almost running out of room, and I have one more Agave to plant. I know that I have been compla\ing about running out of room for several years, but I have changed the whole garden around due to this addiction; and as an member of a 12 Step program I know all about some addictions, ja ja ja
Thanks Belle! It was so fun. I think I may join their little group too. :) Can't get enough succulent talk.
Xuling, my red dyckia is spreading! I just saw it today when adding additional top dressing. So excited. I can't believe how they seem to take the god awful heat 110 plus last year, and reflected heat with no problem. Love them! Last year I got a puya chilensis, it looked like a
dyckia when I bought it... It was a small 4 inch pot of it. Today I had to pull it out of the ground and give it a tall 2 foot pot. It's a monster! Tony root ball though. Crazy. I'm curious to see how big of a spread the dyckia's get.
How does one find out about the C/S shows semi locally? I just planted a Dyckia red seedling (this is how it was called) and if it gets enormous I will have to move it, or the C/S around it. My Dyckia 'Spider Witch' is getting huge and already I had to move to cactus in order to give it more room. I willl not buy Puyas as I think that their spines are worse than glochids. and I work with bare hands in the garden. xuling
