Bird Identification: Corvid in Death Valley ID

I'm not from the U.S.A. and am a bit confused about this bird I saw in Death Valley National Park, CA. I've only got the photo and can't remember how big it was for ID purposes but if anyone can tell me if it's a common raven or an american crow I'd really appreciate it!

Looks like it's calling there - can you remember what it sounded like?

This? 'caw caw caw'

Or this? 'prrukk prrukk prrukk'

I think that was just the panting - was a pretty hot day from memory. Can't remember any vocalisations sorry.
