I found this guy above me on the ceiling when I looked up from brushing my teeth tonight. Usually I'm happy to see house spiders around but this one reminded me of one of the rare ones I should be wary of but wanted to find out for sure.

Hobo or Giant House?

Thank you!

I do not believe that it is possible to be certain without at least examining the underside of the spider - see

Thanks Flapdoodle.

Turned out to be a giant house spider. He has spots, so a hobo he's not.

Although I was excited to maybe have to get a microscope to know what kind of spider he was, I'm relieved he's not a hobo.
