I got this from a Vietnamese friend, who called it the miracle plant. The flowers have yellow petals then open to red calyx (?) and green seed pods (see photo) which ripen to black seeds. New growth is a light pink I think. I'm in San Diego.

We decorate this plant around Vietnamese lunar new year.

That should be an Ochna.

Tell your vietnamese friend, it is "hoa mai".
