I think it is a weed... but would like confirmation. If it is, how to get rid of it, just pull it root and all?

I think it is a flower, but can you take a picture from the side of the plant. I can't figure out it's habit.

Here is a picture of the same plant this year, 2014. And it has a couple of unique buds. Not flowering yet though.

I looked up images of Hibiscus trionum and the leaves do look similar.
And it appears, it depends on where you live, whether its considered a weed or an ornamental flower.

Can someone confirm?

That flower bud looks like a poppy, for example, Iceland Poppy.

Yes, I agree that this year's plant is Iceland poppy, but last year's photo shows a different plant entirely... and Hibiscus trionum is an annual so...

And the first bud came into bloom this morning, a white flower, see 2 pics, an Iceland Poppy? Funny I don't remember planting it.

I am always reminded of the line of a song when I hear the "is it a weed?" ...the line: "I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch". Another way of saying it is that a weed is ANY plant that is growing where it is not wanted!!!!!!!
