Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

This hawk was photographed by my trail camera last week in Willis, TX (about 50 miles north of Houston). Hopefully the photo is good enough for an ID? That's the only angle it caught. The post he is sitting on is about 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter.

My guess is Red-shouldered Hawk...

Yep, Red-shouldered Hawk, I'd reckon a one-year old subadult as it has adult tail pattern but appears not to have the reddish shoulders yet (though the purple tone of the pic makes it tricky to judge - trying a photoshop edit ...)

Thanks much, Resin! Appreciate the ID confirmation and the edit looks a lot better.
