We have many tiny birdies that hang around our bird bath, and I never notice them that much. Until - I saw this little guy who can only be called adorable. Cute to an exponential degree with his Opie Taylor haircut. Can anybody tell me what kind of bird this is?

I don't know who Opie Taylor is, but this is a juvenile finch, rather than a Wren. They are really cute when they still have the down tufts on their heads. I am leaning toward the House Finch because it does not have any eyebrow, like the Purple or Cassin's finch. But because it is a juvenile, I do not know if they would have the full markings yet.

Thanks very much. He's so cute, I'd like to keep him as a pet, but imprisonment is so not cool, even for a House Finch. Opie Taylor was Sheriff Andy Taylor's son on the Andy Griffith Show (of course).

Opie Taylor was played by the now famous Director Ron Howard as a child

Ditto to juvenile House Finch.

No idea who Opie Taylor is/was, nor what the Andy Griffith show is/was, either ;-)
