I found this small spider in my house this summer. I have lived in Michigan for 40 years and have killed a lot of spiders. This is the first time I have seen this one. Could I have brought it with me from a recent trip to California? I had killed a black widow during my visit to S. California. This spider has the same shape but different markings. I have looked at many other spider search sites and have not found a similar one.

it looks like one of the harmless crab spiders to me...definitely NOT a widow.

looking again, i don't think it's a crab spider. the name escapes me at the moment but you're safe. i might be thinking of an Orb spider but i don't know the species.

Steatoda triangulosa, a cobweb/comb-footed spider - harmless to humans...
