Raining right now with light southerly winds that will turn back to NE trades by tomorrow. Heavy rain and thunderstorms in Honolulu yesterday did not come our way.
Back to light showers, tradewinds for the rest of the week. Temps from near 60 at night and upper 70s during the day.
We are way behind on our average rainfall. Will check out the numbers.

Global Regina put the one I posted above up [HYPERLINK@www.facebook.com]

All I know now is that the models only agree to disagree.

Well that and we will be darn cold and will be doing our darndest to share. ;)

Juhur7 air crystalizes at somewhat warmer temps than -60F as we've already had a lot of sundogs (mind you I am going by what we felt on the ground...up high I'm sure it was colder then -60F). At -60, near ground temps, however air will be flash frozen should it come all at once (and so will we).

Lilypon;; people react rather badly after the past few years to the weather extremes (etc , we can play along or cuss , Not much choice about that , your well educated to that ! ..
Temperature is 60F to 65F degrees here now SW wind has changed to W , When it begins mixing with the NW winds tonight , the temps fall to 42 , tomorrows high ,maybe?
Then the Winter Storm warning Wednesday thru Friday 6 to 10 inches of snow?
Temps fall TO 17 to 2 degrees for highs and lows ,, This IS a rated G thread ,, good thing !!! Because this drives me enough to get a few comments , sometimes .. but it is, after all , only the weather ,, being-- well , the weather .
So you sent the wind to Maxine and Maxine sent it to us ,,, as for us ,,, we will watch the weather shuffle on to Buffalo ,,, The snow Capital of North America !!!

Juhur you are correct re bad weather down there. I keep forgetting at this time of year more can happen than cold, snow and ice (though some areas below certainly aren't prepared for any of them). And tornados can happen I guess (though I haven't seen any of the mets, weather junkies or storm chasers talk about them this time round...yet).

The fellows that I see post, at different weather sites, are professionals and serious weather fans. Years ago I questioned their sanity re wanting certain weather but gave that up a long time ago. Though when I see the boys from Houston praying that we get lots of snowcover and cold so as to share with them I do have a little devil on my shoulder that prays they will be digging out for days after our cold gets down there!!!

As you said weather is what it is. We all have one or more types that we dread with all our being. Mine is extremely hot and humid or the extreme cold (though it does give us sunlight and many here would rather have -50'sF and sun then milder winters with lots of snow and weeks upon weeks of endless, grey depressing cloud cover).

Those Houston folks wanting cold are just thinkin about the bugs in the Bug Thicket. If they got cold they would have no electrical and the place would literally be Katy Bar the Door! The thievin that would Happen with no elect- water- etc. WHY you ask? Ancient rotten electrical and transformers rotted by 90%+ constant humidity- water lines that never knew such a thing as a frost depth? Is that the proper term for depth of freeze in ground? Ummm. These guys barely ever keep a windbreaker for a winter coat. The guys accustomed to 100* days would be frozen to death. Sheesh. They forget that what THEY want when they ask, probably isn't what they would get! Chuckl. Better they pack and go tourist to get their cold. 61* in Indy, so far. Hoping to get gone before the mess hits here, this Kenworth is NOT my idea of a cold weather truck either...

What's a Kentworth Kittriana?

And you are right a number of Houstonians wanted to get rid of bugs but a number wanted snow. Don't think they had an inkling way back when of how this winter would set up and that they'd get almost a direct blast from up here.

Freezing rain and nasty cold however, as you pointed out above, is also what they are risking when they plead for my cold.

It won't get as cold here as they originally forecasted (by the looks of it) but Southern Alberta is going to go much colder than they normally do (ie they are getting more of a Saskatchewan blast) and that is going to head, in a round and about way, to Texas (via of course by Kelli as her post suggests). McFarlene (sp?) is what they call it I believe.

I hope you are headed to warmer climes or have a very good generator.

We are darn cold (for this time of year) and it will be sticking around for a while (even with us sharing).

Kenworth, slang KWhop. Cummins motor, Eaton Fuller tranny- standard wearher 2009 18 wheeler, chuckl. Those kids in Montana are mostly new drivers, will learn how to do more than put their foot on the fuel peddle, bump the governor and steer til the sun goes down and their solar powered trucks freeze for the night. Chuckl. They have my sympathies- most of em are city kids who have never done anything more than run the joystix for online games. SO no background to fall back on. Diesel is all mostly number #2, hard to find #1 If they know how to blend it and dont relie on the bottled fuel additives to keep them from gellin up. Still have to go look some stuff up. Temps dropped when the little front blew in but 47* was reading when I parked at Effingham, Ill. Chuckl. I know why I dont like the cold, have already been frostbit if you ask my toes and fingers!

Lovely capture Kelli!

Thank you for the pic kittriana ... were you a trucker in Montana at one time?

Readin your post re trucks and diesel and freezing in Montana I must say I'm very happy my son is home right now. Northern Alberta hit the -40's and he is a well site geo who is also very grateful he is no longer there (well until the beginning of January anyways). He will also be picking up a longer extension cord...last well he couldn't plug his vehicle in since he had to park it so far away from any power source. He really felt hard done by at that well...his vehicle was cold (thankfully not diesel), his shack was furthest away from the drill site and there were wolves that liked to sit up on the berm behind his shack. They reminded him of vultures! ;o)

Luckily that drill ended just after the cold front moved in and he missed travelling in the blizzard.

I drive 48 states still- the late 80's were a lot colder than these last years have been. Am sittin just south of Little Rock, Ark now. Ran freezing rain and sleet for 2.5 hrs accumulated to abt 3"-4" slush by time I crossed the Mississippi into Missouri at Cairo, Ill. Temps are still holdimg 36* so far and the rain has started again. Am trying to find a source of RELIABLE road info, but this is Arkansas and weather is mostly un reliable here. We feel the new systems blow thru every 2 to 3 days and they are most noticeable in cold weather. Back to work I have 3 more hours to work with if I choose to utilize that option. Lilypon I forgot ,, Has a way of reminding you about kids putting the tongue on a ice cube tray . (the hand )
It was 36 below back at the end of the 1980's here, I had to walk in that with almost a 40 mph wind . I forget as to why , these days it would be too bad ... no way ...
It froze my facial hair off , after only 5 minutes ..
I'm thinking the early explorers of the polar regions had really tough hair , every time I see the old photos...

Mornin Ju and Lilly. Forecasters put their thermometers in places that are protected for some reason- protected from sun in summer, and protected from cold in winter. I have that on the best authority of my little brother whom was a weatherman for the navy in his youth. Now hes an electrician. Am lookin at stubborn cold sittin over Dallas this mornin, rain and 34* here still tho outside of the DFW metroplex. I have to change out the buckets catchin water in my truck before Before I head on into the city. The late 80's Ju had BAD ice storms even in Dallas area for like 22days. Telephone poles saturated and snapped, gas rationed,

The only problems with the roads is people driving to fast. Don't matter if here or Texas.
I was out & about yesterday.
Some icy roads, but 40MPH & got along fine.
50MPH probably would have been in a ditch waiting for tow truck!

22/10 28 now , wind chill 18 .. weather cast missed a bit once again. CG &Kitt ; Last years school bus slide offs , there had been several . Makes that all decide with caution . What the Indiana has in common with Texas , is it get muddy , slightest thaw , and poof , conditions get bad ,real fast .. Up north in Minnesota you all ,well the weather usually saves that for spring ..

27* across Dallas. No snow. Was several inches of sleet and freezing rain. Didnt take pictures of the ice logs on the overpasses- but they were an avg of 12" hi spaced 8" apart. Little cars were getting stuck in them. It is ice with running water under a lot of it, - reminds me a lot of the ice storms we had here in the late 80's. You are wrong CG. There are MANY kinds of ice, Mn doesnt have the humidity and fluctuating geographical temps. No one is trying to drive faster than 3 to 15mph- and I 20 is in better shape than several of the other roads north of it.

Everything is coated with a layer of ice out there. No snow, just ice. Maybe 1/4 in. It stopped raining/sleeting late yesterday afternoon so it isn't as thick as they thought it might be. So far, so good. The prediction is down into the low 20s here. Warming - but another front coming through tonight and perhaps tomorrow. :(

Dallas was 26* when I left - the ice slid off the tandems slowly, but when I parked in Hempstead there was still ice on a lot of the metal under there, temps at home were 37* but dropped at dark with a light mizzle soaking everything. I watch weather to help me time trips thru the areas I go. The air flows in certain patterns and I expect a new air push every 2 to 3 days - the weakness of the 2nd push (or strength) is a bit harder to figure, but then you usually get an xtra bit of time before a new wave starts over. Indiana is frigid, shudder. Even Illinois winds arent as downright cold as Indiana. I seem to adapt to temps as weather changes- probably because I am not in house as much as many are, but humidity coupled with heat sends me running for showers to cool off.

Forecast models sure have been interesting these past few days...at one point I was wondering if we'd be hitting the -60'sF to make the United States as cold as some were predicting. They still are showing a nice *ahem* Siberian visit however. Has the Houstonians worried sick about their pipes and the fact that they *might* have to find some really warm clothes soon.

No matter what the mid west sure does look like it will be feeling the chill with the lovely snow pack that has been laid down there.

We are currently in a heat wave right now:
Partly cloudy

Reached low 40s today with sunshine.

Tomorrow we have a weather system coming out of the southwest. Starts out with freezing drizzle, gets above freezing with drizzle/rain, then overnight it will turn into snow. We are on the border of getting anywhere from 2 to 6 inches. I'm hoping for 6. lol

It's an icy mess here today. This morning we had freezing rain. Messed up the roads pretty good and shut down several major and minor highways til they could clear up wrecks. My driveway and road, which are gravel, were a solid sheet of ice this morning. Never had problem walking on icy gravel til today.

Later on in the day we got above freezing, so just plain rain and melting ice in most places. When I got off work my road still had icy spots and some of the back roads did too.

Now we will supposedly be seeing some snow and ice again overnight.

Currently 35.

MAV MOS has Grand Forks in the single digits above zero (F) all day Tuesday." I noticed right after posting that he connected to Edmonton's newspaper FB feed to see what they are saying *live* as it were there.

I hope it stays nice for the morn...I have to do some running around and don't feel like bundling up much.

Yeah, Kelli got some rain..well sort of. I remember one year when I lived in S. Calif. it rained the whole month of January, then never again the rest of the year...my VW bug got swiped away in a flash flood and made front page news with the caption, "Yes, VW bugs really do float", I was 20 and cried all day about my car.

After four mornings of 42 degrees to start out with, back to our normal 50 something this morning and up to 80 today...so glad...I was already missing my flip flops.

Yes, once in a while, a very great while, it will rain a lot. Bummer about the car, though.

They're calling for a high of 65F, sunny, some wind. It's not uncommon to get a lot a wind after a wimpy rain "storm".

Water in Cal doesnt soak in, so tends to puddle in low places, drivers just dont adj to the diff in dust/wet/wind- so many 'tourists' there. Green Bay watching snowfall, sigh. and fall, and fall...i believe it is 20*, flakes are mostly small, but wet enough to soak you thru in short order if you are out there- makes you a Frosty snowman in no time!

The thunder rolled around in the distance yesterday afternoon and we got a good soaking of light to moderate rain overnight.
This morning we awoke to a beautiful clear blue sky and sunshine.
Have to drive 60 miles up the coast to Waimea today for Office lunch. Will have the blue pacific on my right and the green slopes and peaks of Mauna Kea on the left. Should be sunny all the way.
On Oahu we have 20 - 30 ft waves on the Northshore and High surf advisory for Kailua Kona which is unusual. Wave motion is more from the west so catching the Kona coast. Could have wave action of the roads in some places.
Sorry guys but this is just what we get over here.
I do enjoy the photos of your snow in all its beautiful forms. I'll try and take some photos on my drive today.
To see snow in Hawaii check out the Mauna Kea Web Cams. The time lapse for Dec 19th is fascinating. You can see lightning from above at night, moon shades and the snow melting as the sun hits the summit.

The web site says alder and sagebrush, but I don't believe it. There are very few alder trees around here and I'm pretty sure sagebrush isn't blooming yet. I think it's pine tree. There are a lot of pine trees around here and they are early pollinators. The weather has probably got them started earlier than usual.

Do you have humidity in your house Kelli? We don't have a humidifier on our new furnace yet (but do have one humidifier going). My hands and feet get so dry in the winter so Santa gave me gel gloves and socks that I wear at night.

Humidity is high outside right now as we are at 32F but doesn't help inside the house here.

Earlier today we were at 39.2 F

Now this is in our immediate future:

Moose Jaw - Pense - Central Butte - Craik
3:36 PM CST Friday 27 December 2013
Special weather statement for
Moose Jaw - Pense - Central Butte - Craik continued

Drastic change in the weather coming tonight.

An intensifying Alberta clipper will track southeastward into North Dakota on Saturday. Snow will spread across much of Southern Saskatchewan this evening associated with this system. Generally 5 to 10 cm can be expected tonight into Saturday morning with snow tapering off from north to south late Saturday morning. The highest amounts will likely be along the Yellowhead Highway corridor. In addition to the snow strong northerly winds gusting to 50 to 60 km/h will develop late tonight into Saturday morning. The combination of these strong winds and falling snow will create poor visibilities in blowing snow especially over southwestern areas of the province where the winds will be the strongest. Visibilities of less than 1 km can be expected over open areas late tonight and Saturday morning in those areas. Conditions should improve Saturday afternoon as winds gradually subside and snow tapers off.

In the wake of this system, bitterly cold temperatures will prevail for the weekend through new year's evening...With some hint of a warm-up as 2014 begins. Extreme wind chill values of minus 40 to minus 45 are possible over Eastern Saskatchewan Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.

Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada at http://WWW.WEATHER.GC.CA.

Hello everyone, hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. We did cool down on Christmas day, so it seemed a bit more like Christmas, but I still had on flip flops. :-)

Today up to 80, but I doubt it, unless the sun comes out, but it is pretty cloudy and even a bit of rain this morning. We need rain as we are under a burn ban in many counties.

Early Bloomer, the photos are a "Winterwonderland", just beautiful. I always love your photography.

Kelli, I remember how cold the ocean was in Calif. I lived in Laguna Beach my last year there. Beautiful place.

Lilypon- I can't even begin to imagine what minus 45 wind chills could feel like.

Mike - I was hoping to see those huge Hawaiian waves...and Santa didn't need his big red suit here either.

I made a Christmas tree out of some extra clay pots...got the idea from Pinterest.

I remember -50 wind chills when I lived in PA.

We're still having halcyon days. The ancient Greeks called the kingfisher the halcyon. They believed that it nested on the ocean around the time of the winter solstice and had the ability to calm storms. Thus they has calm weather around the time of the winter solstice.

They are calling for a high of 74F. It is supposed to get windy later today. Again, we've got the fire warning.

Sunkissed there is only one description of what the -50's/-40's feels like (pour a bowl of ice and water and stick your hand in it and keep it there until it hurts). The amount of time it will take to hurt you is about the same amount of time it will take to hurt once we head outside.

Warnings are up that any idiot that takes to the highway (insane until white-out conditions go away) should have these items in their vehicle:

Check off the items for your 72-hour emergency kit as you accumulate them.
Emergency Car Kit Food
Food that won't spoil, such as energy bars
Water
In plastic bottles so they won't break if frozen (change every six months)
Blanket
Extra clothing and shoes
First aid kit
With seatbelt cutter
Small shovel, scraper and snowbrush
Candle in a deep can and matches
Windup flashlight
Whistle
In case you need to attract attention
Roadmaps
Copy of your emergency plan and personal documents

Also keep these inside your trunk
Sand, salt or cat litter (non clumping)
Antifreeze/windshield washer fluid
Tow rope
Jumper cables
Fire extinguisher
Warning light or road flares

Grey skies and rain, rain, rain, started with showers yesterday morning, became continuous yesterday afternoon, all night, got heavier this morning and has now gone to drizzle. Supposed to rain on and off all day today and tomorrow with chance of thunderstorms on the Kona side of the island. Should clear by Tuesday and then heavy band of rain coming down across the island chain Thursday thru next weekend. It is our rainy season so no surprises. Seeing the mainland snow and temperature reports makes it all very bearable.

Windchill is going to be nasty...nasty...nasty and that model sure has Texans nervous now (as well as other Southwest States). Those under Winnipeg/Manitova and Northern Ontario will also be sharing this joyous occasion (tongue deeply embeded in cheek here) with us.

Cool link. It has a 3 hour delay till it catches up, so it may seem like the winds are wrong, till it does.

-2/12/3
Rest Of Today...Colder. Mostly sunny early in the morning...Then cloudy with light snow in the afternoon. Snow accumulation up to 1 inch. High around 12. Northwest wind around 5 mph shifting to the southwest. Chance of snow 90 percent. Wind chill readings to 15 below early in the morning.
Tonight...Not as cold. Mostly cloudy. Light snow likely in the evening. Little or no snow accumulation. Low around 3. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph shifting to the northwest after midnight. Chance of snow 70 percent. Wind chill readings to 10 below after midnight.

We had 45 weather the other day so we took advantage of it and took down all the outdoor Christmas. Yesterday I took down all but the tree.

Lost power for a short time last night. Almost continuous lightning last evening with distant thunder.

Area of thunderstorms parked right over Hilo and neighboring coast lines. Coast road closed in numerous places with trees down and flooding. Some small hail.

Drove to work this morning at 8am through thunderstorms and torrential tropical rain. Headlights and really dark. Lightning advisory, Flash Flood warning and small stream flood advisories up for about 4 hours.

Now it has cleared. Still unsettled so not sure what is in store for the rest of the day.

Wednesday and Thursday will see strengthening south and SW winds prior to a weather front "sweeping" down the island chain from the NW. Could be more heavy rain.

Yes, we are finally getting some weather.

Today...Partly sunny in the morning then becoming cloudy. A 50 percent chance of light snow. Northwest wind around 5 mph shifting to the northeast in the afternoon. Wind chill readings to 10 below in the morning.
Tonight...Cloudy. Light snow likely in the evening...Then a chance of light snow after midnight. Snow accumulation up to 1 inch. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 70 percent. Wind chill readings to 5 below.

I've been remembering all the Dave Garden friends who have passed over the years since I joined. How sad to never meet someone, but be affected by their passing. I love the fact that so many prayers go out for people you would have never thought to pray for. It's why I pray for the whole world. A few people I know are on the ''other'' side of the world, as are others. Prayers are vibes and God must be very happy to see many more good thoughts go out to others. Goodwill to mankind.

Everyone have a wonderful blessed end to the old year and a wonderful start to the new. HUGS and PRAYERS!

Happy New Year!

42F right now. They are calling for a high of 74F. No rain in the weekly forecast. They are pretty good at forecasting no rain. Heck, even I could do that and be right more than 90% of the time.

This has nothing to do with weather but I thought it was interesting. It is the inside of a sand dollar.

Happy New Year to everyone, I can't believe how 2013 zipped by ...I have been sick for most of it, hence me being absent! Am feeling a lot better than at this time last year. Our temps are as unusual as ever... 48 right now, then 60 tomorrow then colder after that!!!! No wonder Texas is the worst state for the flu!!!!!!

The horses got spooked and was running in the fields.
