Beginner Gardening: horrible invasive clematis, heads up

Do not plant this unless you have too much free time..

horribly invasive plant in gardens, it took over in a few months.

Most vines are not appropriate in a tended garden. Sorry you embarked on that lesson the hard way. The basic key is knowing whether or not they spread underground. Those that do can't be a team player in a bed with anything else... that you don't want covered with said vine.
