Hard to believe how time has flown, but the16th DG annual photo contest has begun! Find the details here. Best wishes to all the entrants!!!

Not sure what it is - or if it is even an insect!

A friend found this in their wood burner the other night, it had either come down the chimney or was amongst the logs they had just put in it.

Any idea what it is please? Someone told her it was a Queen Bee and probably came down the chimney looking for somewhere to make a nest. It was about 1.5 inches in length and very furry.

Can you give some indication where on the planet you observed this? Whenever one is seeking help with an ID, location narrows the possibilities.

Ah right, sorry it's in the UK, North West.

It almost looks like a bee.

Superficially resembles a carpenter bee, but definitely could use a clearer image...
