I almost overlooked this plant with the tiny, 1/4" pale pink flowers from Washington-on-the-Brazos state park. Any ideas will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Absolutely not a penstemon.
The opposite leaves suggest Caryophyllaceae and the inflated calyces suggest Silene.
Looks like Silene gallica:
