painted raised beds - help!

North Hollywood, CA

While I was out of town, my husband very kindly made me 3 very large raised beds for vegetable growing. Only problem is - one side has been painted. He used recycled wood from an old cedar fence which had been painted on one side in the early 1990s. I assume the paint was new at the time and did not contain lead. It was from a client's property so I don't know what paint they used. I've attached pictures. The painted side is facing inwards. Right now, I don't want to plant anything in there because of worries about toxins from the paint leaching into the soil. Is it safe to plant in there or should I ask him to redo the beds? Maybe I could use some barrier over the paint perhaps?
Thanks
