Spider ID UK

Bristol, United Kingdom

Hello, i found this large dead spider on my windowsill this morning. It was big and had a hard bit on its back, a bit smaller than a Malteser, when I picked it up i noticed this bit was extremely hard. It had some yellowish fluid coming out of the side of it (pictured).
Does any one know what it is?
Thanks in advance

This is a harmless orb-weaving spider (family Araneidae) - see http://www.uksafari.com/cross.htm for an example.
