SOLVED: Shrub in northern italy

another one of my northern italy / close to the sea mysteries - it's a shrub, about 1 m high, and the pic is from late june. any ideas?

Looks like that to me, too.
There are many cultivated varieties with bronze-red-purple leaves with pink to bronze flowers. This one looks like a green leaf/pink flower, perhaps the wild form. They are native to the area described.
