CLOSED: What Is This Creepy Thing?

Salina, KS

Found this Feb 27, 2017 on my blackberry trellis. Salina Kansas 67401 Zone 6. Very warm winter, most everything was starting to grow. Did not even get cold enough for my apples to bloom. Never saw this critter before. Any ideas?

This is an adult female spring cankerworm moth. In this species as well as the very similar fall cankerworm, the female moths are wingless. See https://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/insects/find/spring-and-fall-cankerworms/
