I got some seeds in a trade, and they were supposed to be coffee. I have old coffee seeds, and they're not the same. The new ones look to me like some sort of palm. They have a thin shell, and a white 'nut' inside. They're smooth, and vaguely triangular, with a little dark bit at the tip, as if that's where they were attached.
I was also supposed to get Parlour Palm seeds in the trade, but they didn't look like palm seeds (or coffee seeds, come to that). Could these seeds be Parlour Palm?
Picture = Eight Coffee seeds and three of the unknown seeds.
Mary,
I don't know what those seeds are but I can definitely tell you they are NOT Chamaedorea elegans seeds (that's the 'Parlor Palm). C elegans has spherical seeds and are probably a bit smaller than your mystery seeds. Those look just like pine nuts to me.
Thanks. I've planted some anyway, so I'll see what comes up.
Got another one for you, then. What do daylily seeds look like? I got something that was supposed to be seeds of short lilies, but they aren't. I got shiny round black seeds, like Dictamnus. Any suggestions?
No, they haven't come up. They don't look the same as other seeds I've had labelled Zamia - they haven't germinated either! I know people say palms can take a long time to germinate, but the only success I've had with any of them has been with fresh seeds. We're having a spell of hot weather here at the moment - maybe I should see what seeds I still have and sow a new lot.
