Ya'll won't believe this but I'd sure like your input.
"Farmer's Mkt Charged with Price Fixing". Yep. Our little Hillsboro mkt. Turns out that in our rules and regs this yr (as in yrs past) we have a "vendors cannot price their goods more than 25% lower than the going rate for that item" rule. (Did I make that clear?) The idea has been that since many of us rely on the mkt for our incomes we try to keep the prices around the same level. What has happened in the past would be someone would show up out of the blue w/a truckload of corn (for example) and sell it for $1/doz "just to get rid of it" while the rest of us need to get $2.50/dz. (Usually those folks are employed elsewhere and garden as a hobby and don't rely on the income from their excess hobby crop like we do.)
Anyway, it looks like a disgruntled person (perhaps a fellow marketer) notified the Attorney General about this. (So far the market's lawyer hasn't gotten back to us yet on whether this is considered price fixing.)
Would like some input from some of you other marketers out there, and just what rules you may have concerning an issue like this. Also, do any of you have a rule that says you must post your prices for the public to see? We also implemented that rule this yr, for the ease of the customer and also to help enforce the above-mentioned rule.
