I just bought a few Pulsatillas that look just like this and am trying to find out as much info as I can about it. I live in virginia zone 7, I plan to use them in trough gardens. any suggestions as to the best conditions for growing? Yours looks beautiful. I've been told they're difficult. I've searched thru all my alpine books and can't seem to gleen enough info. any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I have some that I grew grom seed in 1998, they are doing well on a North facing slope where they keep moist but free draining. It's not a tall bank, and gets some sun.
I grew some more from the seed I got from them, I have a mixture of colours. They may be difficult when very small but if you put them in the ground when very young they seem to establish better than trying to grow them on in pots. I even have a couple of self sets. The plants I grew from them I have placed in a mixed bed, where other plants probably take excess moisture, and they too are doing well. My soil is sandy and stony, I also have put compost on the ground in some places.
To recap, some shade, some sun, free draining, kept moist, plant when young, and good luck, they are lovely in spring!
