Schefflera, Umbrella Tree, Octopus Tree
Schefflera actinophylla

This is a fast growing plant. I cut it back a couple of times a year to about 4 to 5 feet. As you can see, it is as tall as the pool screen enclosure again. I root the trimming. Easy, root-tone and stick them in the ground.

you grow this plant outside? I thought it was only for indoors? Would love to know as I have problems with new growth that drops off. Am I overwatering or underwatering?

In Dade county Schefflera Actinophylla is in the list of exotic invasive plants. The seeds carried by birds germinate readily, in many occasions at the expense of native flora.

What a large "tree" ;), here far of in Finland it wouldn't succeed outside, well maybe in the summer. I just bought one last week, looks "delicious".

kountrykitten, if the leafs turn yellow first at the bottom of the plant and start to drop, then it is a sign of overwatering. Usually "underwatering" is harder to do, because you should see it happen when the compost feels too dry.

Leaf-drop can happen also if the plant is in a chilly place.

I have a large (5' x 5' x 3') indoor schefflera (unknown species). When it became off-balance, due to uneven growth, I trimmed two long branches. Now, then, I would like to propagate it. EXACTLY how do I go about rooting the trimmed branches. By the way, my plant has NEVER flowered. Is there a way to encourage blossoms?

Any help would be appreciated.
