Max, I saw that last year along the freeway just north of New Braunfels. I gathered some seeds, then didn't get them planted. It is a beautiful flower, very much like a thistle but without the stickers. Geyata Ajilvsgi used it on the cover of her book "Wildflowers of Texas".

Thanks Poppysue, This is the first time I have seen them here. Aimee I think I will go by tomorrow and get a few seeds to see if I can get them grow in a bed

Oh, please do and let me know! Geyata says in her book that they are easily cultivated, and are sold in seed catalogs as powderpuff or sweet sultan. I am tempted to try to germinate a few of the ones I gathered in pots, as they might become too old before next year. If you get an opportunity, would you gather some for me? I will owe you my entire garden, anyway, since you are so generous.
