My English is HS level, last done in 1958, My one course in tech writing
was taught by a person with 7 PhD'S in communications. He spoke to 20 men as
though we all had PhD'S. DUH My first bad experience with writers. This
person also wrote a tech manual for the US Army on how to change a tire on a
CJ5 jeep. The manual again was written for PhD's by a PhD, When it got to
the field, the guys that had to read this manual with an 8th grade education could not read a word. For over 40 years my jobs have not required written communications.
My second bad experience is with the writer of a manual for a MTD snowblower. He/she did not explain that when a slow blower jams up that even with the motor turned off and the break set, that when you relieve the jam there is enough back pressure built up to cause the impeller blades to rotate. This left me with 6 broken bones and a 10% muscle loss, ergo my left hand does not always do what my mind tells it. Ergo also means a 75% loss of income. I can not afford MS rates to tell me how to do it, as in how to use spell check with OE. IMHO that should be in a manual with the software. I have helped folks with PhDs in software with garden problems, but they can not spend the time in return to help me.
I do chat with PhD's in microbiology, entamology, pathology, agronomy, virology and toxicology.
I an now 61 years old, I have beaten heredity factors by a wide margin,
Most of the men in my family were dead before they were 50. I don't have
the time to go back to school for a PHD in communications just for the
privilege of posting on this forum.
I learned a lot about gardening from an 84 year old with maybe an 8th grade
education. He taught me things that even the USDA doesn't know about.
He knew enough about plants and soils to send 2 girls to 2 the top 10 Ivy
League Schools in the US and left his son a fully paid for 400 A farm. To me that to me is someone who knows how to grow.
I attempted to bring to this forum 52 years of growing experience in hopes
of sharing my experiences in the veggie garden and dirt under the nails.
It is obvious to me that your advice esp. about peppers is out of a textbook
or out of your butt. NOT from real practical experience of growing.
I will not come back here because of you.
I would also like to suggest that you and your friends read another book. A book that was mandatory home reading in my generation. It is one of the few books with the authors name as title of the book
Emily Post
