darius and I saw a hosta blooming with very large white blossoms on it. All the other hostas are through blooming around here. I tried to pull up Shady Oaks website to see if I could find it but keep getting a message "this website cannot be displayed." Can anyone help? I couldn't figure it out in the plants database, there are over 3,000 hostas there!
There is a hosta species that blooms white in August; the common name is Plaintain Lily; I will have to check what the Latin name is: what you saw is probably a cultivar of that one. They are very fragrant.
OK, I posted this elsewhere and got a response. It is plantiginia hosta. I called the lady who owned the property where it was planted ( I got her number from her real estate agent - her house is for sale) and she agreed to give me some in the fall. In the meantime, ruby42 said she had had lots of them and would send them to darius and I. I love the nickname, Plantain Lily, thanks lupinelover
