Lightening hit my modem...I replaced it. Now my speakers aren't working,,,it's not the speakers because I tested them on another computer and they work fine. It's somewhere in my computer. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix it without having to take it to a repair shop? Thanks

Hmmm...did you plug the wires back into the correct inputs?
Is the volume controls on you puter (not your speakers) turned up? (Are the speakers turned on?)
Tell us what you've tried, I bet it's something simple you may have just overlooked.

Yes, yes, and yes. Everything is turned up as loud as it will go. I tried plugging it into different places, but that didn't help. Any other suggestions?

And you clicked on your task bar, where it shows your sound/media mixer?

You mean that window that adjusts speaker volume, wave volume, line volume, cd player volume, and synthesizer volume? If so, yes.

The sound card and modem is integrated on some computers, meaning they're one piece of hardware, combined. It's possible your computer has no sound card now that you replaced that modem.

So can I buy a soundcard and install it myself? I installed the modem...would you install it the same way?

Yep, if you installed a modem, you can install a sound card. There will be a little connector you need to attach to the modem (I'm trying to remember, LOL). Most good sound cards will have instructions. Creative Labs' Soundblaster cards are great; we have the Soundblaster Live! 64 and love it.
