SOLVED: cousin of marsh marigold

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

No photo, have to figure out scanner and sending. Plant grows in rosette pattern , leaves look like the indoor mums or columbines , three leaves on stem larger one on top , next two opposite each other and smaller with light green splotches on leaves; flower single petaled , bright yellow, size of a dime-aggressive- likes moist shade. Would like to know plant, before I toss another bucketful in the compost heap.

Tilton, NH(Zone 4a)

Could it be a buttercup?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes - I'd agree with ceder - it sounds like creeping buttercup. http://www.agf.gov.bc.ca/croplive/cropprot/weedguid/butter.htm
