I've been doing some family research and I've found that my ancestors came down the Ohio River with Gen.Georgr Rogers Clark in 1778 and founded what has become Louisville ,KY.
They settled on an Island in the Ohio River that they named Corn Island and planted crops for the troops.
Does anyone know what kind of corn might have been planted in such a settlement? They came from central PA,so it was probably whatever they were growing around what is now Somerset,PA.
I thought this might be a fun thread...we have so much here on tomatoes and peppers that some other veggies should get some discussion.(thanks for the prod ohiorganic)
There's a world of things out there that are becoming endangered and as much as I love tomatoes and peppers...that doesn't look likely for now.
Let's take the challenge and come up with some new discussions on other veggies..._and_ flowers! there are heirlooms there also!
Ok...what do you all know about corn? Let's hear it.Our continent gave it to the world and it was vital to the survival of our forefathers.Even if you don't have a clue as to what might have been planted, use this thread to ask or discuss about crops our ancestors used.
