I got a response to the beans RR announcement that questioned the requirement of 25 seeds as the minimum. This person noted that other heirloom round robins she'd participated in only asked for 10-12 seeds.

That number, and even smaller ones, is often used by people who do not understand the nature of variatal vigor. I'm wondering, therefore, if it isn't time for a discussion on the minimum number of plants required to maintain genetic vigor in a variety, and what all that means?

I'll kick the ball off on this providing there's some interest in the topic.
