I have recently discovered the great old corn flavor that is lost in modern hybrids bred primarily for earliness and sweetness. Do you have any favorites??? I like Iroquois--a long slender ear with only about 10 rows of fat white kernals on a 9 foot stalk.
I also grow Seneca mini indian popcorn--pretty colorful ears with a fantastic nutty flavor. I finally found a new source for the seed after 2 years of searching. I made a serious error 3 years ago by storing the seed saved for planting in a jar next to the pop corn popper...wife popped it up for me with a little butter on top. Needless to say , I was very worried when I discovered the mistake...and my source no longer had it. A seed saver eating the last of a corn variety would be like a conservationist eating the last eagle! This year I'll keep the seeds in my desk!
