kanga, try the tradelists (link is below in the right-hand column) - here are the search results I got for Acanthus: http://davesgarden.com/search/tradelists.php?search_text=Aca...

Mostly "wanteds" but a few "will have's" Also, our plant/seed trading forums will become quite active as seed harvesting heats up.

Welshherblady, did you grow that from seed, and if so, how long did it take for your plant to reach that size? (I'd love to try this one myself - what a gorgeous plant!)

No I did not buy from seed - bought a "mother" plant from a garden centre and have divided up the plant over the years - it takes a good two/three years to really settle in! This plant has been growing in this situation for five years now, and gets taller every year.

I too grow the Acanthus mollis but it gets very badly mildewed during the high summer in its shady position. In my small garden this is really the only place where I have room for it in.
Any suggestions for making it healthier and less lax and prone to flopping would be very much appreciated as it is such a handsome thing with such a wonderful classical history!
