This is an herbal perennial, grows in this area,East Tenn., in usually shaded wet areas on the north side of hills or mountains. Sells for about $250.00 per pound (roots only)
I think this is spelled 'ginseng'. My dad dug it all his life. The price per pound varies, with the dried root being much more pricey than the green root. And if you can find what they call a 'man root', which would be shaped more or less like person (i.e., having two legs and two arms coming off the central taproot) that single root would be worth more than a pound or two of the plain shape.
It's good for stomache complaints, among other things.
