planolinda,
Have you touched the plant? Did it make you itch and give you a rash? Or did it do so to anyone else? If so, it is probably poison ivy. If not, you are lucky. Ask a neighbor who knows poison ivy to check. If it looks like the picture above, watch out! The one above is reddish because those are young leaves. They get plane medium green when they are mature and turn bright red in the fall.

-i think i somehow erased what i wrote when i tried to go back and see the pic again--my plant has a red stem and looks like 3 leaves but on closer look it is sometimes like one leaf with 3 parts that make it look like 3 leaves --i like the plant- it grows a foot tall and is lacy looking and pretty--it kind of reminds me of the lacy look of a japanese maple tree (i hope that is the one i am thinking of!) -my neighbor insists it is poison ivy and so i am careful -- i know that before she mentioned it i must have touched it over the years and don't recall ever having a rash--i looked at different poison ivy look alikes and the closest i found is the boston ivy--thanks for your imput--i am tempted to touch it to my arm and find out but am a little afraid -

It probably isn't poison ivy. If you just touched it lightly in a known spot, the reaction would be very light or not at all. You may not be sensitive to poison ivy, but cortizone cream applied to the itchy place and **no scratching** will cure it. The no scratching is the hard part.

i just saw a story about poison ivy and how it is going to be much more of a problem --because of global warming! more of it and more powerful ! as for my ivy--it doesn't look like what they showed --funny thing is-i had a professional out to look at a tree and asked could she tell if i had poison ivy--she said no--not poison ivy but she would check in a book back at office and see what it is --i said i would put it in a baggy and the woman said "oh no! i had poison ivy as a child and it was terrible. we better not touch it or get close" so i guess she wasn't quite sure!!!
