SOLVED: What is it???

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9b)

This appeared in a pot and I just left it. It became like Jack and the beanstalk! It is about 4 feet high and got a bloom like a shaft of wheat expect instead of brown, it is greenish gray. Probaly just a weed that will spread like kudzu! LOL Would like to know what it is though.

Just a shot in the dark as I've never seen it before ~ dodder? If so, then yes, it's a weed. I've heard it's a rather NASTY one at that. Mentions of it are usually followed by the statement, "BURN IT, POT, SOIL AND ALL!" ;)

You're probably right Wingnut!

Here's a bundle of Cuscuta (Dodder) photos

Looks like it could be Dog Fennel too. They start out with a thick stem and scraggly leaves(?)http://www.emilycompost.com/dogfennel.htm

Dodder it is not. We have, unfortunately, lots of it around here.
