George4tax: Isn't sweet alyssum wonderful. It asks so little and gives so much. I always seem to start it too late and it blooms late here. I'm going to sow seeds earlier this spring. Last spring I started three of the Carpet series.

I love that plant! You can do anything with it... it never dies here, its like a perennial that blooms all year long. All I have to do now and then if I want it to look nice is to trim it back. It reseeds everywhere but isnt weedy. I planted sweet peas in a hanging basket and sweet alyssem came up too even though it hasnt been grown there :) and is now blooming with it. Starved, given no water in the summer, ignored and abused...it still lives and blooms!

It's strictly an annual for me, but its a wonder ground cover of basket filler... and it smells so sweet. It would be great if it would reseed here.

Can I plant it under a rose tree? Can it take the watering that I would give the rose tree once a week?

I think it would do fine. If you have a large area, you can get bulk seed at Home Depot.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I have allysum showing up under large plants, buried. One very green, bushy but bloomless plant I pulled out & tried re-planting it inthe sun & it dried up. Shock maybe? My husband said leave it there & maybe it will reseed itself.
