I was so excited when I opened my mailbox and found Baker's Creek Heirloom Seed Catalog waiting for me! I read and re-read all the pages from cover-to-cover and then promptly started making a "must have" list for '03! I just love the descriptions with each entry and the vintage pictures that accompanied some of the text. Many of their varieties were not only rare, but very unique. Plus, I was very excited to see so many varieties from all over the world!

A FEW of my "must haves"...

Asaparagus, "Precoce D'Argenteuil"
Beans, "Royalty Purple Pod", "Henederson's Black Valentine", "Chinese Asparagus Bean", "Holstein", "Clay", "Haricot Rouge du Burkina Faso", Carrot, "KonoShinkuroda Gusoun, "Shin Kuroda 5", Cauliflower, "Violetta Italia", "Purple of Sicily" (can't wait to see & taste purple califlower!
Eggplant, "Diamond", "Turkish Orange",
Lettuce, "Cimmaron", "Forellenschluss", "Mignonette Bronze",
Melons, "Golden Honeymoon", "Piel de Sapo" (Toad Skin)-gotta try that one!, "Anne Arundel" (Pre-1800 Maryland heirloom-have to have this one!)
Peppers, "Quadrato D'asti Rosso", "Thai Red Chilli",

I've only gotten half way through the heirloom veggies, and there are still pages and pages of vintage flowers and herbs! What is on your "want" list for '03???
