Here in coastal South Carolina, the Walking Iris does beautifully. However, it is not as cold-hardy as one would like -- it must be protected by moving inside during cold weather (i.e.: temperatures below 30F.). My "parent" plant is about 21 years old and has produced countless offspring.

I have 14 blooms of this iris outside my kitchen window today. A neighbor shared some with me a few years ago and it took some moving around the yard to get the right conditions for this to bloom. I am located in west central FL. and they are out all year in the ground. This is the first year I have had so many blooms at once. Can't wait to divide them and share them with others...

What a lovely photo! I have just ordered a "Walking Iris" from a good mail order company, and I'm just so excited to read all that's been posted & see what I'll be experiencing! Already have two terrific "pass along" plants--Mother-of-Thousands and Pregnant Onion--and this one will be a terrific addition.

I always love this plant. It has a very light good smell. Anybody know where I can find it in NY metro area? Thanks.
