I just wanted to say what a wonderful time I had at the Baker Creek Seed Spring Planting Festival!
The original plan for my trip was to go with a carload of girlfriends from work. Things came up and two of the four couldn't go. That left the two remaining travelers with LOTS more room to bring home our plants! I was especially excited about the blueberries I bought. I bought 4 plants, but when I got home I decided to give two of the plants to my best friend who is so generous and brings me plants on a regular basis!
Anyhow, When left Columbia Missouri at 6 o'clock and arrived at our distination about 9:00. What a beautiful Spring day for the festival as well. When we arrived we could see some tents had been set up for the overnighters and the early vendors were already setting up and ready to sell! I love to get there early and get to pick out the cream of the crop. Also the vendors are proud of their plants and willing to chat it up. I love that.
My friend and I made three trips with arm loads of plants to the car. We ended up having to rearrange the seats to have more room.
I was so excited to meet Brook! and enjoyed his talk immensely. I do wish I had heard his talk before planting all the seeds my little neighbor lady had given me. Brook had mentioned how one of his friends planted all his beans for a hard to find bean and it was a terrible planting year , he lost all his beans and he couldn't find another start for years to come. Now the seeds my little neighbor lady gave are probably not rare or endangered, but such good advice for us seedsavers (seed beggar in my case). My neighbor called one flowering vine a cinnamon vine and another was a summer poinsettia ( I know this one is a euphorbia and other people on Daves have this). My neighbor had asked my husband and I over for lunch with the rest of her family. At dessert time she came out with an old plastic cup with her carefully collected seeds. The rest of the table thought us to be a little kooky I think. But she and I perfectly understood. and what a nice thoughtful gift.
Anyhow, back to the Festival. Jere said that Dave719 and Violet were both in attendance. I was sorry to not get to meet them. Maybe at the Fall Gettogether we can do that!
Now, back to the garden.
