These are the flowers that stayed alive after being buried under many inches of ice and snow, all winter. I took this last week, although I don't think the pic is very good, and today there is about 5 times more flowers. The little tag thingy on them, and others I bought for color variation, said dianthus. One I bought said F1Hybrid. But nothing I have seen on the web look anything like these. I will attach a pic with this, then one with the multi-colored ones on my next posting. Any ideas? Thanks!

I'd say that it is a dianthus, but not Sweet William, which has flat umbells of flowers rather that the single flowers your picture shows. I have no idea what variety it is - I usually don't worry about the specifics as long as it is pretty :)
