I have observed this tree through the Rio Grande Valley of Texas; southern Florida; Bahamas; and Philippines (where the designation 'flame tree' is used). Unfortunately, for me, this tree does not withstand the mildest freezes of central Florida. I do have two dwarf versions growing in large pots which I keep on the screened pool deck - moving them inside only for extreme cold. These grow well throughout South Texas and although they freeze back they regrow quite rapidly. I overfertilized mine early in March and they now have bloom heads approximately two feet tall. I loved you pictures - thanks for sharing. defjef
I lived in zone 11 for 5 years and in the second week of June the Royal Poinciana was in it's peak of blooming. The trees are so beautiful this plant database can not have enough photographs of this tree in bloom.
Hello,
I live in zone 9a and have one flamboyant about 2 ft. I have just put more seeds in to soak for planting. I have heard that if one places the older Christmas tree lights in the branches and around the trunk, freezing might be avoided.
These are the most beautiful trees I have ever seen, even when not in bloom.
Defjef, what kind of fertilizer do you recommend and how often?
Thanks for the pictures.
