Oh how pretty and dainty!! Growing outside your door, oh my. I borrowed a few rose and a few white trillium that grow by the 1000's along the roadside. It is an old dirt road that goes right thru the woods. People were running them over(it is only one lane), so i decided to "rescue" some, lol
I discovered red and pink trilluim lasy year when we were at the "farm house" where Barney works. He was cutting the grass when he asked me if I knew anything about this plant. I didn't but I got out looked it up and discovered that we had two of three that the book had pictured. White is the third. Do they come in other colors? Exotic looking aren't they. I should try to get a picture of them if they are there this year.
Yellow Lady Slipper is what Garden in the Woods (a wildflowers-only preserve) propogates & sells to the public as it's the most hardy, and actually a different plant. Pink lady slippers (Cypripedium Acaule) are more fragile, sensitive to growing conditions and disease. 2 populations growing in the woods near me (pink and nearly-white), and in a spot 2 towns away, have lost some plants in recent years due to a black-leaf mold/mildew condition. I've received mixed opinions on how to deal with it.
