The black seeds that you are talking about, do sprout new plants. I found that out when my 2 daughters were having a fight and were throwing the seeds at each other. I had these plants coming up all over my yard. I am not sure what other names they go by. I obtained my first one from a neighbor. I now have quite a few of them.
