Gray Santolina is 2 years old and stays outside year-round in Summerville SC, USDA Zone 8a; companion plant is purslane. Both plants are drought-tolerant and receive 1/2 day hot afternoon sun. Gray Santolina is very fragrant when crushed and has never bloomed.
We have a native Yarrow here in this area, and to tell the truth I hate it. Spreads badly. Has flat cluster of white blooms. Does the kind of yarrow in your picture stay in place. Donna
Thanks to all of you for your comments. I'll take a cutting to the local garden center where this plant was purchased two years ago and hope they can confirm its identity. The plant has never bloomed or seeded, so it's not spread to surrounding areas nor has it spread from the base.
Thank you, kviolette and Terry, for correctly identifying my Gray Santolina! New staff at garden center immediately recognized this plant (said the smell drives his cat crazy).
After you told me the name of the plant, I found many sites that discussed it, also.
