This is a very nice one. Have the leaf boots been stripped?
Is that hard to do? I just had one installed in my front yard in San Mateo (I'm halfway between San Francisco and Palo Alto). My Butia's trunk is about 5 feet tall, and the foliage another 4-5 feet.
I was told my tree is about 20 years old. Anyway, wondering if you have thoughts on stripping the trunk - I like the smooth look but don't want to damage the tree. Please advise if possible.
Not an expert at that as I have not had to do any stripping.. not really interested that sort of maintenance... but most Butias strip themselves eventually.
here in SC (South Carolina, not southern california) they are usually beiginning to rot (if they haven't already fallen off by the time they reach that size and age) and are usually pretty easy to just pull or break off. also when things start to grow in the leaf bases of them, their roots bush them off and away. many young seedlings grow in them here when the fruit is caught in the leaf bases, so that is how many fall off here in addition to just plain rotting.
