actually, its a very common plant. just new to us!!
its called "pregnant onion" because it makes mega baby
plants thru the bulb. i have saved and grown several of the babies. i will share also if you contact me and work out a plan. we can bubble wrap a small one and 2-day it to you. it should make it fine. its a hardy plant.
I am looking to identify a plant I have had for a about 14 years. It looks similar to the one in this photo that is half cut off on the right, with the long slender strap-like leaves.
I have heard several names, but none seems right. It does not have a thick trunk like the photos of bottle palms and the descriptions of elephant palms. The trunk is about 3 feet tall and about 1.5 to 3 inches around. The leaves spill out, get curly and droop down from there. The bulbous base is about 6 or 7 inches diameter where it meets the soil. It resembles an onion, and the bulb cannot be fully buried in the soil for the plant to survive.
Can someone help me identify? I water mine once or twice a month. I saw one at a county fair 5 or 6 years ago with a note that said they only water it twice a year.
