As some of you already know, there was an article done about me in the Paducah Sun last week. The hyperlink will take you to where Dave has posted it for me so that everyone can read.It was pretty good for a Saturday edition, and although there are a few things that aren't exactly accurate, only a dedicated heirloomer would catch them. All in all,I'm pleased.
One of the perks of having the exposure is that I've been contacted by a gentleman who has an heirloom peanut.Brook already knows about the find, but we're both fuzzy on peanut production. So,who knows the best way to raise peanuts? My Dad always grew them when we were kids, but I never paid enough attention back then. We always had a great crop,so I know that the area will grow good peanuts.
These peanuts were grown by an elderly gentleman who carefully saved only the ones that had 3 or more nuts to the shell, and only the biggest and best of those. This was done for many years, and now the nuts are supposed to be really nice. He passed away at the age of 96 last year, and gave the peanuts to the man who contacted me, to pass on when the right person was found to grow them. I'm honored.
He is to bring them to the lecture that I'm giving on Saturday,so I'm excited.
I know the basics, but figure that some of you...Shoe?? could give me some pointers that will result in a good harvest next season...then seeds for everyone!
What do y'all know about peanuts? Let's hear it...come on...
