Do people sell plants and seeds on Dave's Garden or is it just for trading?

Dave's Garden is a non-commercial site, which means it isn't permissable to sell anything, whether it's seeds, plants, books, crafts, do-dads, or anything else. The rule applies equally to individuals and companies, large or small. Members who have businesses may wish to link to their website on their personal homepage, and other members can visit their site if they're interested.

Co-op purchases are the only time members may purchase plants, seeds or other garden-related items within the Dave's Garden site. The difference between a co-op and any other type of purchase is that the organizer agrees to purchase a large quantity of plants, seeds, or what-have-you on behalf of the members who choose to participate in that co-op. The organizer then sends the purchased items to each participant in exchange for their payment for their purchase. (Think of it as a group purchase for a virtual gardening club.)

Each co-op's organizer must ensure it is an "arm's length" transaction, meaning the organizer cannot be acting as an agent for (or on behalf of) the company the items were ordered from. More details on the ins and outs of co-ops can be found in the Co-op primer here: http://davesgarden.com/coop_primer/

If you wish to sell plants, you can always open up a member store at DG to do so. Just click on the right under Menu - Member Stores :)
