I have this in my 9A garden. Makes fruit by April or May.
This year, a few lemons ripened over the rainy summer. Fruit can be harvested while green, as early as August if summer is rainy. Early green lemons will be either small or medium, and will be juicy and tart. Since the tree makes such an enormous amount of fruit, those harvested from August to November will scarcely be missed. Fruit turns yellow in November.

How can you tell when the lemon is ready for picking?
and after picking, can you just clean and use/eat?
I have a 1 yr old tree in a planter (size: 20" h x 16" w)
I have 2 larger (mostly) yellow lemons and 4 smaller green ones.

I was given this plant as a gift - no instructions!
I can send a photo if necessary...

Normally lemons are havested somewhere between Nov-Jan here in Northern California, but there are a few that ripen through out the year.

If it is yellow, pick it! If left on the tree too long, they will become soft and mushy, fibrous and not be as tasty as they normally would be.
