When I type a message in one of the forums it does not come up as new, the answer is always no. Why? What am I doing wrong?

Hi Patricia! Welcome to DG!

You are doing everything right. The 'new' pops up everytime there is a new post to the thread.Since you were the last poster,Dave has programmed the site so it knows that you have read all of the posts. When someone else posts to the thread, the site tells you that a 'new' post has been added. This way,you can tell without opening a thread if there has been a response.

Thanks Melody. It will take me a little time to find my way around, but in the process I have stumbled into some fascinating discussions! I may just turn in my library card, seems things are more interesting in Dave's Garden!
