Iris setosa "canadensis." This picture was taken at Lance-aux-Meadows, Newfoundland. The meadows were full of them. Oh yeah, it was July and the St. Lawrence was still full of icebergs.
Being a native to Newfoundland, I see drifts of these along the coast, where they grow in damp, peaty-sandy soils. My posted picture of this subspecies (our native is Iris setosa ssp. canadensis, a much shorter type than those in Alaska or Europe) is growing in my gardem in St. John's.
