Is this commonly called a "Lemon Fig"? Is the fruit edible?
I live in Cincinnati, Oh and have an Indian Fig in a very protected area. It grew about 6 ft this year, developed lots of fruit but have had no success with the fruit ripening. It is in full sun and has everything I know to give it to thrive quite well. The fruit just doesn't ripen.
Any suggestions?
I've been told it is an Indian fig. It came from my grandparents farm in Mississippi and this plant has grown to 12ft from root stock in three years.
I've also been told by ametuer gardeners that I should put crushed limestone dust around the base of it.
Not sure your growing season is long enough. Out here in So Cal there are two fig crops per year- one in May and one in July-August... not sure you get a normal one if you don't have the other. Here figs are a no-brainer... never tried to grow them in a climate like yours. No suggestions, sorry.
